Parking 4.0 — an intelligent network of various components

What does parking 4.0 mean?
Similar to the term “Industry 4.0,” Parking 4.0 is an intelligent networking of various components using information and communication technologies. More specifically: New technologies make processes more efficient and therefore more sustainable.
For parking, this means that parking itself is made more convenient as well as parking space management for operators. Parking 4.0 no longer sees parking space as pure parking space but combines the topics of urban mobility, e-mobility and traffic management and thus creates a hub that can bring together the future mobility mix ( “Mobility Hub” ).
What are the benefits and innovations of Parking 4.0?
Parking 4.0 is trying to solve current problems in the area of mobility with regard to parking space management. These include a lack of parking space, the difficult transition from car use to other forms of mobility, fault-prone parking equipment and time-consuming parking space management.
Connected parking
With the help of license plate recognition, Barrier-free parking parking without a parking disc or parking ticket. When driving in and out, the license plate of the vehicle is scanned in order to be able to determine the parking time. The parking process can then be conveniently paid for in the app. The barrier-free entry and exit prevents backlogs and makes it possible to dispense with maintenance-prone barriers. The digitization of parking processes also enables e-charging to be integrated and interfaces to other mobility services can be integrated.

Mobility Hub
Parking 4.0 is moving away from the classic parking lot towards Mobility hubs. This creates hubs for parking facilities, sharing models and connections to public transport on parking areas.
This ensures both a parking infrastructure for cars and the integration of micro mobility fleets. The e-car charging infrastructure is becoming an elementary part of the area. Thanks to this innovation, parking spaces make a major contribution to more sustainable mobility.
Flexible use - From employee parking to night parking
Many parking spaces, particularly in retail stores, are not always busy during peak hours or are completely empty. A good example is Parking areas of offices or supermarketsthat are vacant outside operating hours. This idle time could be used for residents' parking, for example, and thus reduce on-street parking and parking search traffic.
Why can we talk about the future of parking in Parking 4.0?
Many challenges in mobility can be solved by using parking space more efficiently. More efficient use is made possible, for example, by annoying parking. Parking 4.0 offers many different approaches to make smart parking possible and thus make parking space efficient and sustainable in the long term.
