”The Einstein“is a shopping center in Munich, which covers an area of around 36,000 m². An underground car park with 292 parking spaces and a parking garage with 145 parking spaces are available for visitors. Both parking options are managed on the basis of Peter Park's digital parking system.
Find out here how the project has developed since installation and what benefits it has had for customers and operators.
Challenges in shopping center parking management
Before the Peter Park system was installed, the parking areas of the “Das Einstein” shopping center were controlled using conventional barriers. This led to frequent traffic jams, long waiting times, but also to high maintenance costs due to the maintenance-intensive barrier system. In addition, the operators of the area faced numerous other challenges in the efficient management of the area.
Mixed use of parking space
“das Einstein” houses a variety of different stores: A Media Markt, an AllDent dental center, a Schön Clinic, a Netto supermarket, several catering establishments and a Fitness First sports center are just a few of the businesses that attract thousands of visitors to the shopping center every day - many of them by car. Due to the versatile use of parking space by various customer groups, coordinating all customer needs is a major challenge. The parking spaces in “das Einstein” are used by shopping center employees, gym guests and supermarket customers. With a conventional parking system, it was not possible to adjust parking permits and prices to different customer segments.

Waiting times at pay machines
Long lines in front of the pay machine are a challenge, especially during peak hours after work and on weekends. The visitors want to make their way home, some of them packed full of shopping, and now have to wait in line for several minutes to pay for their parking ticket - this quickly creates displeasure - including in “Das Einstein”.
Maintenance-intensive barrier systems
From the perspective of a parking space operator, maintenance-intensive and fail-prone barrier systems represents one of the biggest challenges. This creates backlogs at the barriers, which directly affects the flow of visitors and customer satisfaction. Occasional barrier failures not only led to chaos and long queues at the barriers, but also to costly repairs, extensive control of parking processes and dissatisfied customers.
The solution for efficient parking space management
Digital parking space management
Through the Digitalization of parking space management With the help of Peter Park, the efficiency of parking areas is increased. One automatic license plate recognition enables a smooth parking process that makes barriers superfluous. Waiting times are reduced and operators can increase their turnover.
No barriers, transparent control
Barriers could be replaced by the introduction of camera scanners. As a result, cost-intensive, regular maintenance of barriers will no longer be necessary in the future. In addition, the area no longer has to be covered manually, which reduces personnel costs and costs.
Overall, the conversion of the barrier system to a digital license plate system led to significant cost savings and increased efficiency through process automation. By preventing system failures, this also ensures a smooth and seamless parking process without affecting visitors.
A special feature in “Das Einstein” is the feature”Automatic CameraPark”, with which the Peter Park platform and EasyPark can communicate. As a result, the start and end of every parking process can be fully automated. The customer no longer has to go to the parking ticket machine. The digital recording of parking processes enables central availability and data insight to analyze peak hours, parking duration and additional parameters. With the help of this data, approaches can be developed to adjust customer conditions in order to increase customer satisfaction and sales.
Ticketless payment: At the vending machine or via app
The introduction of the digital parking system automates parking processes: When driving in and out, digital license plate recognition records the vehicle's license plate, automatically determines the duration of the parking process, and barriers and tickets are omitted. Both short-term, night park and long-term parking tickets can be booked flexibly for visitors.
The parking process can be carried out with various smartphone apps, such as Easypark, can be paid by EC & credit card and, among other things, Apple Pay via NFC or at a parking machine. You only have to pay for the time actually parked! There is no conventional ticket made of paper or plastic, which reduces costs and waste. Peter Park has also installed a new parking machine where users simply enter their license plate to pay.
After payment, you can simply leave the area with the vehicle. Clear signs remind you once again not to forget to pay. The quick processing of the parking process without stopping at the barrier, without searching for the parking ticket and the easy payment at the vending machine reduce waiting times and enable you to leave the parking area quickly.
Efficient mixed use in parking areas
With Peter Park's new parking management system, different parking usage conditions can be integrated depending on the customer group. For example, visitors to the gym have the option of receiving a digital discount via an individual activation mask in the form of a tablet. This leads to more flexible pricing models, higher end customer orientation and increased customer satisfaction.

Implementation of the Peter Park system
The implementation of the Peter Park system went smoothly for the operator. New cameras for license plate recognition and payment machines were installed and Internet access was installed in the underground car park. The barrier systems, which are susceptible to repair, have been uninstalled and the installation of new signs draws the attention of visitors to the new digital system.
Additional posters and notices inside the shopping center indicate the barrier-free parking process and remind you to go to the payment machine before leaving the parking area. Additional info screens explain the process step by step.
